Rachel S. Harris

Biography

Rachel S. Harris is Associate Professor of Israeli Literature and Culture in Comparative and World Literature and the Program in Jewish Culture and Society. She is author of Warriors, Witches, Whores: Women in Israeli Cinema (Wayne State University Press, 2017), and An Ideological Death: Suicide in Israeli Literature (Northwestern University Press, 2014). She is co-editor of Casting a Giant Shadow: The Transnational Shaping of Israeli Cinema (Indiana University Press, 2021) and Narratives of Dissent: War in Contemporary Israeli Arts and Culture (Wayne State University Press, 2012). She edited Teaching the Arab-Israeli Conflict (Wayne State University Press, 2019). Currently she serves as the editor of Journal of Jewish Identities.
 

Research Interests

Her research interests include Israeli and Jewish literature and film; particularly work in gender and women studies and post-colonialism. New projects include a reader of Jewish Women's Studies for Wayne State Press, and a new study of Israeli film history 1948-1964.
